The United States advanced to the Quarterfinals with a goal from former Rochester Ravens player Abby Wambach in a 3-0 win over North Korea and former Northern Virginia Majestics players Alberta Sackey and Adjoa Bayor led Ghana to a surprising 2-1 win over Australia.

Former Rochester Raven Abby Wambach converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute and helped propel the US to the Quarterfinals as Cat Reddick tallied two more en route to the 3-0 win over North Korea to capture the top spot in Group A. The lowest ranked team in the tournament at 52, Ghana surprised Australia, which needed a victory to keep its hopes of advancing alive, by the score of 2-1 with a pair of goals from former Northern Virginia Majestics player Alberta Sackey in the 34th and 39th minutes. Majestics player Adjoa Bayor was honored as the Player of the Match for her outstanding play in midfield, creating numerous scoring chances in the win.
