Scores / W-League Alumni Updates

Canada 3 :: 0 Argentina
Canada rebounded from a loss in their opener to down Argentina 3-0 in their second match in Group C play. Charmaine Hooper, an inaugural USL Hall of Fame inductee in 2002, gave the Canadians an early lead when she converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute after Christine Latham was taken down in the box. Latham would lock up the win for Canada in the second half with goals in the 79th and 82nd minutes. Ottawa Fury goalkeeper Taryn Swiatek, replacing the injured Karina LeBlanc, made three saves in the shutout. Canada is now tied at 1-1-0 in the group with Japan, who they face Saturday.

Norway 1 :: 4 Brazil
Brazil picked up its second win of the tournament to take the lead in Group B with two goals in each half. Katia scored her third goal of the tournament in the win.

Germany 3 :: 0 Japan
After scoring twice in Japan’s opener, former Denver Diamond Homare Sawa was shut down by Germany, who picked up their second win in dominating fashion to move atop Group C. Birgit Prinz scored twice to move to the top of the tournament scoring list at three goals with Brazil’s Katia and Japan’s Mio Otani.

France 1 :: 0 South Korea
In a meeting of two winless first-year World Cup teams, France picked up the victory with a goal from Marinette Pichon in the 84th minute. France is tied for second in the group with Norway at 1-1-0 and faces the group leader Brazil Saturday.
