LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Legends of United Soccer Leagues W-League announced today the hiring of Twila Kaufman as Head Coach. Currently the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, Kaufman holds her USSF National B License. Kaufman was a former University of Arizona standout, who gained experience playing in USL with the Arizona Heatwave.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to raise the level,” said Kaufman. “[We will be] bringing in a lot of new players. What is most exciting is every player is eager, fully-committed to being part of a community and not just playing games. We are planning to accomplish a lot.”
Kaufman will be joined on the Legends bench by assistant coaches: Ali Malaekeh, Ramon Reid and Goalkeeper coach Chris Swift.
“We believe Twila’s coaching and recruiting ability, as well as her playing experience to be a great compliment to our young team,” said General Manager, Josh Hodges.
In 2009, the team went 1-9-2 against competition in the W-League’s Western Conference, which was home to eventual league champion, the Pali Blues. Despite the rough start in the club’s first campaign, the Legends lost only four matches by more than one goal. They also played the league champions to a 3-1 result in their final meeting of the season and ended their inaugural season with a 2-1 win over the Ventura County Fusion.
The LA Legends W-League and Premier Development League teams serve as the peak of the development pyramid for the Legends Football Club. Legends FC fields 44 competitive youth club teams competing in Southern California’s Coast Soccer League. LA Legends tryout information can be found online at www.LegendsFC.net under W-League.
