MORGANTOWN, WV -- The West Virginia Illusion announced Monday the formation of a USL W-League women’s soccer team for the 2008 season. The W-League franchise will be based in Morgantown and will be the first elite women’s soccer franchise in the history of the state of West Virginia.

The team will be coached by Joe Dorini, Director of Coaching for West Virginia United Soccer Club and Director of Soccer Operations at PROPerformanceRx, and will consist of past WVU stars as well as the best talent in the surrounding areas.

“West Virginia has always been an unknown item in the soccer community and we are hoping to show that this area has some great talent to offer. We have some real good backing and great family ownership (The Lynch Family) that will help us create a soccer environment suited for the best teams in the country. We are contacting many schools and soccer powers in the area to bring some great talent to the team as well as some possible unknown players to make a surprise impact,” said Head Coach and General Manager Joe Dorini.

Dorini brings professional USL experience as well as high level coaching experience to the team having played for the Carolina Dynamo in the USL Second Division. He is assisted by Christen “Suggie” Seaman, a former standout defender at WVU, will take on player-coach duties. Marisa Kanela, another former WVU star, has also committed to the team for the 2008 season.

The team will be training out of PROPerformanceRx, an 80,000 square foot training and fitness facility in Morgantown, WV (www.properformancerx.com).

Future endeavors for the Illusion include bringing Super Y-League and USL Super-20 League teams to the area. The club is currently setting up youth camps throughout North Central West Virginia for the next upcoming months and though the summer.

"We hope to make the WV Illusion a hometown team by involving the community and by providing a family friendly atmosphere to every home game and Illusion event. Our goal is to provide exciting high level and competitive team to the Morgantown area. We are going to be affiliated with West Virginia United Soccer Club, and also the West Virginia Chaos of the USL Premier Development League, as well as having open arms to anyone who wants to be a part of our commitment to the community. We can’t wait to start in May 2008,” said Dorini.
