WEST LAFAYETTE, IN -- Veronica Phewa scored twice and Laura Kane (18th min) added one goal as FC Indiana beat host Purdue University 3-0 in their first preseason game at Mollenkopf Athletic Center on the campus of Purdue.

Kane, who is returning to the squad, put the Lionesses on the board 18 minutes into their first action as a W-League team.

South African Phewa doubled the score in the 27th minute and pushed it to 3-0 in the 65th as the rest of the squad preserved the shutout.

FC Indiana never looked fully in synch and coach Shek Borkowski admitted his side were not at their best, "We should have made more of our possession and chances. We lacked sharpness, were wasteful in the box and made life difficult for ourselves."

"Some first game lack of fluidity showed, but the most important part of it was that we defended well. The back four were quick to advance on to their opponents, and that made a big difference."
