TORONTO, ON -- The Toronto Lady Lynx remain perfect for the W-League season after defeating the Rochester Rhinos 2-nil in a match played in a driving rainstorm at Centennial Park Stadium.
The win raises the Lady Lynx’ record to 4-0-0, and their 12 points sits them atop the Northern Division. It also continues the Lady Lynx dominance over their Lake Ontario rivals Rochester, raising their record to 4-0-0 all-time versus the Rhinos.
Midfielder Brittany Moore opened the scoring in the 28th minute when she placed her left-footed strike just inside the top corner, just past a diving Joy McKenzie in the Rochester net. Adrienne Ruhe Lischke earned the assist on Moore’s third goal of the year.
Kate Qually made the score 2-0 in the 70th minute, slamming home the ball amidst a scrum in front of the Rochester net, after Tina Romagnuolo’s free kick struck the wall and ricocheted towards goal.
The Lady Lynx controlled the play throughout most the match, which was played in extremely sloppy conditions on a slick, wet pitch. The hosts out-shot Rochester by an 18-6 margin, and kept the Rhinos’ scoring chances to a minimum. Justine Bernier extended her shutout streak to 360 minutes, earning her fourth consecutive shutout to start the year.
The Lady Lynx face a stern test in their next match, when they return to action next Sunday afternoon with a 4:00 PM match against their bitter Ontario rivals the Ottawa Fury, who also sit undefeated on the season. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Centennial Park Stadium box office 2 hours prior to kick-off.
