VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The W-League Piranhas (0-1-0) will open their 2008 home campaign against a brand new W-League side this Saturday night, kicking off at 7 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Hellenic (0-1-0). Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season.

The Piranhas lost a hard-fought battle with last year’s W-League champion Atlanta 3-1 on the road on May 10. The Piranhas went up 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 26th minute by Mercy Akide Udoh but Atlanta pulled even in the 45th minute. The second half belonged to Atlanta mainly due to the team’s bench. The Piranhas’ had only two subs for the match; Atlanta had five. With fresh legs on the pitch, the Silverbacks went up for good in the 78th minute and put the game away in stoppage time. Atlanta outshot the Piranhas 17-11.

Tampa Bay lost their inaugural match to Bradenton 1-0 at home, also on May 10. Tampa outshot Bradenton 22-7.

The Piranhas will be celebrating “BLACK OUT SATURDAY”, asking all fans to wear black to this weekend’s match. The team’s new black t-shirts and hoodies will be on sale both before and during the game.

Tickets are $5 at the gate and season tickets are still available. Gates open at 6 p.m. For more information on the 2008 Piranhas, please call 757-572-1592 or visit www.hrpiranhas.com.
