PDL and W-League All-League Teams, Statistical Awards announced

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced today the statistical award winners and All-League Teams for the Premier Development League and W-League for the 2003 season.

Garnering the top scoring honors in the PDL was Mr. Vermont Voltage Bo Vuckovic, who is the star player, coach and owner of the club. He captured the Scoring Championship with 39 points and the shared the Goal Scoring title with the Cape Cod Crusaders' Joseph Ngwenya with 17 tallies on the year.

A pair of Des Moines Menace players, Tomas Boltnar and Joseph Kabwe, finished tied atop the assist table with 10 on the year along with Ben Buerger of the Nashville Metros for the Assist Leader honor.

Finishing as Goalkeeper of the Year was Richmond Kickers Future netminder John O'Hara, who posted a 0.57 goals-against average on the year. He also finished with a league-leading seven shutouts with Raleigh's Ford Williams and New Orleans' Garrett Hiebert.

In the W-League, a pair of teammates shared the Scoring Championship. The Ottawa Fury duo of Jeanette Akerlund and Kelly Parker finished tied for the league lead in points with 32 on the year. Akerlund also shared the Goal Scoring title with the Boston Renegades' Carrie Kveton with 14 goals on the year. In addition, Ottawa's Rhian Wilkinson finished atop the assist table for the Assist Leader honor with seven on the year.

The Hampton Roads Piranhas' Meredith Flaherty was honored as the Goalkeeper of the Year with a 0.23 goals-against average on the year. She finished third in the league with five shutouts in 10 matches played. She also notched a goal and an assist in 53 minutes of play in the field.

USL will announce the Rookie, Coach and Defender of the Year awards Wednesday and the Most Valuable Players on Thursday.
