TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced Wednesday its USL Premier Development League and W-League Teams of the Week for the ninth week of the season, honoring Rochester’s Mavis Danso and Augusta’s Freddie Moojen as the Players of the Week, respectively.
Ghana international Mavis Danso made her W-League debut with the Rhinos Friday night and proved to be an immediate boost to the club, which had started the season 1-3-0, leading her side to a 4-0 victory over visiting Vermont.
Danso registered a hat-trick and an assist in the win after a scoreless first half. She beat US international goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill to break the deadlock in the 51st and scored the next two goals in the 64th and 75th for a natural hat-trick. She wrapped the night up by setting up Belinda Kanda, the provider on the opener, in the 77th.
A defender for Ghana in the 2003 World Cup, Danso saw significant time for the Black Queens at the age of 19 as they went 1-2-0 in the group phase to finish third in one of the most difficult groups that included China, Russia and Australia.
The Augusta Fireball maintained their unbeaten status at 7-0-1 with a pair of victories over the week, winning 3-0 at Atlanta and downing Raleigh 2-0 behind the offensive prowess of Freddie Moojen, who finished the weekend with three goals and an assist.
Augusta dominated a 2-1-2 Silverbacks side that had not lost since its season opener behind Moojen’s attack. He set up Ryan Roushandel to open the scoring 15 minutes in and scored twice in the second half at the 51st and 68 minute marks unassisted to secure the victory.
Three nights later at home Moojen scored his third of the week and 10th of the season just two minutes into the match as Augusta blanked the visiting Raleigh Elite.
