LOS ANGELES – The Pali Blues will travel to Denver for a pair of matches against the Colorado Rush and Colorado Rapids as they look to catch the Sounders Women at the top of the W-League's Western Conference standings. The Blues will face the Rush tonight and the Rapids on Sunday.
The Blues haven't faced the Rush, who currently sit at the bottom of the Western Conference table, this season. The Rush are 0-1-3, and the Rapids handed them a 3-2 loss at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to open the season. The Rush’s two points came from 2-2 and 1-1 draws on the road against the Seattle Sounders and Bay Area Breeze, respectively.
The Blues defeated the Rapids 4-0 last week as Makenzy Doniak and Ashley Freyer each scored twice. The Rapids are currently in fifth place with at 1-2-2.
The Rapids' home opener against the Rush remains their only victory this season, while the Blues and LA Strikers have been their only defeats. The Santa Clarita Blue Heat played the Rapids to a 2-2 draw, and most recently they played to a scoreless tie in their second game against the Rush.
Points will be crucial for the Blues on the road trip as the race to the Western Conference championship heats up. The Blues are currently second, one point behind the Sounders Women and one point ahead of the Strikers.
Blues head coach Charlie Naimo will continue to manage the team through its injuries, but is relying on the core to get the job done in Colorado.
“We are looking forward to a great weekend against two good teams,” he said. “Once again, we are leaving a lot of quality home with injuries, but we will take it one game at a time while we continue to strengthen our nucleus that has been getting it done.”
The Rush will host the Blues 9 p.m. ET tonight at the North Area Athletic Complex. The Rapids welcome Pali at 6 p.m. ET Sunday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
