SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY - The Long Island Rough Riders defeated the New York Magic 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in a physical game played under extreme heat. Grace Hawkins scored four times for the Rough Riders taking her season total to 16.

The Rough Riders came out strong, with Grace Hawkins leading the way in the first half, scoring in the 21st and 44th minutes of the game with assists from Kaila Sciascia and Andie Arnold.

The 2-0 scoreline would remain going into the halftime break.

The second half began with the Rough Riders determined to put the game away. Both goalkeepers were called to make several saves early in the half but Grace Hawkins broke through in the 73rd minute, scoring her third goal of the game.

Three minutes later Rachel Hoffman continued the scoring for Long Island making it 4-0.

The Rough Riders defense played solid throughout with key defensive plays by Gabby Charno. With the score at 4-0, the Magic surged forward hoping to pull a goal back. Brittany Pfaff was able to do just that scoring in the 80th minute.

With only ten minutes left on the clock, there was still plenty of time for more action.  Grace Hawkins scored her fourth goal of the game with an assist from Kim Decesare in the 85th minute.

Moments later, Rough Rider Ariana Aston put one in the net in the making the score 6-1.

The Magic continued to fight to the very end and found the back of the net in the 90th minute to close out the scoring.

Each win brings the Rough Riders closer to the playoffs, holding the top spot in the Northeast Division. The North Jersey Valkyries sit in second place trailing the Rough Riders by two points but have a game in hand.

"[This] team seems to be peaking at the right time and hopefully we can carry that into the last game and secure a playoff berth," said Long Island Rough Riders Head Coach Steve Cadet, "It was a great performance by all, and I think Grace Hawkins showed why she is one of the top players in the W-League".

The Rough Riders play their last game of the 2012 W-League season at Cy Donnelly Stadium (St. Anthony’s - South Huntington, NY) Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 5 p.m. ET as they take on the North Jersey Valkyries. The game will have major playoff implications as both teams vie for the top spot in the Northeast Division.
