SANTA CLARITA, CA – Fresh off their back-to-back road trips to the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountain State, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat are anxious to meet all but one of these same opponents at home during the next five games.
Their most recent road trip to the northwest left the Blue Heat tied for fourth place with the Colorado Rapids Women in the Western Conference (3-4-2). During the trip the talent of Portuguese National Team player Edite Fernandes was on full display. Fernandes, who recorded a hat trick against the Victoria Highlanders, was named to this week's W-League Team of the Week.
On Sunday, July 1, the Blue Heat will once again face Vancouver, hoping to take three points after a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Whitecaps on June 22. Returning to the line-up will be Nadia Link, Stacey Rodwell, Katie Russ and Taylor Ramirez, who were unable to travel with the team over the last two weeks.
“We are looking forward to returning to play on our home field, getting some key wins and hopefully moving up in the standings as the season comes to its end,” said Charles Martinez, Blue Heat Head Coach. “The Western Conference is packed with talent. Each game from here forward will be a challenge but I believe in the abilities and excitement that our players bring to every match.”
The Blue Heat play the next five games at home in Santa Clarita at Dr. Paul Priesz Stadium at Valencia High School. The Whitecaps are up first as the Blue Heat play host on Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. PST. Adult admission is $10/person; $5 for youth under 12. Remaining games are scheduled for July 4, July 7, July 11 and July 15.
