Santa Clarita, Ca. – Facing them for the first time this season, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat overwhelmed the Victoria Highlanders at home, earning a 6-0 win on a warm California afternoon.
The Blue Heat scored quickly in the 4th minute of play with Rachel Nuzzolese heading in a goal off a Taryne Boudreau assist. Six short minutes later, Boudreau again provided an assist, this time on an Ana Borges goal. Not giving the Highlanders time to recover, Laura Luis also found the net after a Nuzzolese assist, with the half ending with a 3-0 Blue Heat lead.
Edite Fernandes was fouled in the box during the 68th minute, easily scoring on the ensuing penalty kick. A minute later, Nadia Link added to the scoring with an unassisted shot from just inside the 18. Stacey Rodewell delivered the final goal in minute 72 off of an Fernandes pass.
“This game was a great opportunity to see the depth of our bench and we are extremely pleased with the result,” Head Coach Charles Martinez said. “Victoria gave us space to find scoring opportunities but we need to continue strengthening our teamwork in order to compete head to head in the conference, particularly as we head out on the road next week.”
The Blue Heat travel to Colorado next week for a two-game road trip against the Rapids Women on June 14 and the Rush on June 16. Visit www.SCBlueHeat.com or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/scblueheat for schedules, photos, highlights and ticket information.
