WAYNE, NJ - With three goals in her first two games, Nickolette Driesse certainly has people talking. However, it now seems that it is not just the W-League that is taking note of the 17-year-old forward as the rising star is currently taking part in the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team camp, in Chula Vista, California.
With a work rate and determination to be admired, the youngster has all the tools to go far.
“Being here will definitely help me improve my game. I'll be up against girls who play, and want to play, at the next level. They will push me to work just as hard as them, if not harder,” Driesse said.
In California, Driesse will undergo an intense week-long training program, combining study hall, professional training sessions while playing alongside the U17 national side.
Driesse is not letting herself get carried away by her early success, though. With her feet firmly grounded, Driesse says she is looking forward to forming new friendships with her Valkyries teammates and adapting to the speed and quality of competition of the W-League.
“My favorite thing about being a Valkyrie would definitely be the excitement everyone has for the game. Everyone on the sidelines are always cheering us on and everyone wants to win. It's nice to hear the crowd side cheering for me and the rest of us!”
So what does the future hold for Nickolette Driesse? “I hope to continue on the path of playing for the U.S. Women's National Team and become a better player.”
