ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rochester Ravens will welcome the Hamilton FC Rage to town Wednesday (7 p.m., Wegmans Sports Complex at the Aquinas Institute) for the second W-League contest between the teams this season. The Rage, currently 2-1-1, sit in second place in the Central Division.

Hamilton began the season by earning at least a point in its first three games, including a 1-0 win against Rochester, but is coming off a loss in its most recent matchup against the Toronto Lady Lynx.

“We battled them very hard the first time around and were unlucky to give up such a late goal to take the loss,” Ravens Head Coach Steve Christenson said. “We have added a few key elements since our last meeting that should help us to start capitalizing on some more of our own opportunities, especially early on to avoid a similar outcome.”

The Ravens played Hamilton extremely tough when the two teams met earlier this season in Hamilton, but the Rage ultimately prevailed thanks to an 88th-minute goal from midfielder Diamond Simpson, sealing the 1-0 victory. Ravens goalkeeper Jessie Sanderson stood out in the game, recording eight saves, as did the entire Rochester defense which kept the team in the game while being outshot 20-5 in the game.

The Ravens are 0-5-0 in 2012; however they have seen progress and continued growth through each contest. Leading the way are forwards Brianna Smith, who scored the season’s lone goal against Toronto, and Bella Mitrevski, who earned the assist.

Hamilton has struggled away from home that past two seasons, finding life tough away from their home park at McMaster University. The Rage’s only loss this season was at Toronto and dating back to the start of the 2011 season, the team has only been able to earn one point in its past seven games on the road. The Ravens hope to take advantage of that tendency and capitalize early and often on the road-weary travelers.
