SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Although they hadn’t competed since a very tough match on June 11 against the Colorado Force, the very physical rematch at home yielded yet another 3 points for Santa Clarita. With tonight’s 3-1 win over the Colorado Force, the Blue Heat remains in second place in the Western Conference, with six games remaining in regulation play and a 7-0-1 record. The Whitecaps continue to hold onto the top spot, one point ahead of the Blue Heat with four games left to play.
During the first half, Hannah Beard notched the first goal of the game during for the Blue Heat. Colorado responded with a goal by midfielder Larissa Campos off of a corner kick and both teams went to the locker rooms tied 1-1. Santa Clarita came out in the second half showing noticeable tactical adjustments, resulting in Edite Fernandes placing a perfect goal off of a Beard assist in the 46th minute. In minute 53, Fernandes then sent a pass into Liz Torres, who scored the 3rd and final goal of the game.
Having now won 6 games in a row, the Blue Heat is closely preparing for their next game against the fourth place Colorado Rush. “Our team fought through another hard-hitting game with the Force and we certainly learned from some mistakes in the first half,” said Head Coach Fabian Sandoval. “The Force is probably one of the most difficult teams in the conference with respect to strong, aggressive play, however, our players worked through these challenges and ultimately come up with the win.”
The Blue Heat faces the Colorado Rush on Thursday, June 30 at Valencia High School at 7:00 pm. The Los Angeles Galaxy Street Team will be appearing during all remaining Blue Heat home games, with interactive activities and giveaways to warm up the Blue Heat fans.
