Eastern Conference Victory Highlights Achievements

Atlanta Silverbacks News Release -- www.atlantasilverbacks.com

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Atlanta Silverbacks had already achieved great success as part of the USL W-League, and 2010 was no different as the club continued to perform well both on and off the field.

On the field, the team won the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division for a fourth straight season, a record of 7-2-1 leaving the Silverbacks five points ahead of second-placed Carolina. The ‘Backs then went on to win the Eastern Conference Championship to advance to the Final Four before finishing fourth in the W-League after falling to eventual champion the Buffalo Flash in the semifinals and the regular season champion Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues in the third-place game.

Led by one of the top offenses in the league, Megan Tomlinson was named to the All-Eastern Conference team after leading the side with five goals. She was backed by Kay Harbrueger, who added four, while Alexa Newfield led the team with five assists, fourth-best in the league.

But the season wasn’t just notable for the performance of the team on the field. Off the field the Silverbacks continued to build ties to the community with the United Futbal Academy (UFA), Tucker Youth Soccer Association (TYSA), Fayetteville Lightning and the Washington-Wilkes Recreation Department all taking part in the ‘Club of the Day’ program.

The Silverbacks also partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stands, an organization that raises money for childhood cancer research ‘one cup at a time.’ This will continue next season, so fans will have an opportunity to enjoy more lemonade on a hot day while helping out a terrific group that has raised more than 30 million dollars for cancer research.

“We want to thank the fans, season ticketholders, and sponsors for all the support they have shown this season,” General Manager Laura Fedrigo said. “They really make attending each and every game a special event for our players and coaches. We also want to show our appreciation for the volunteers that help make the games enjoyable for everyone.”
