TUKWILA, Wash. – After ending the 2010 United Soccer Leagues W-League season, the Seattle Sounders Women will take to the pitch at Starfire Sports Complex’s soccer stadium one final time as the team takes on the Tanzania Women’s National Team August 7.
Seattle, led by team leaders in goals Jocelyn Charette and Erin Redwine (3 goals each), finished its season tied for second in the USL W-League Western Conference with the Colorado Rush and the defending national champions, the Pali Blues. A second tiebreaker, based on total wins, was used to determine which of the three would take the Western Conference’s final playoff spot. Pali, with one more win than Seattle and Colorado, went on.
The Tanzania National Team, known as the Twiga Stars, come to the United States to further their training for the African Women’s Championship. After dispatching Eritrea 11:4 on aggregate, the Tanzania punched their first-ever ticket to the AWC. The Twiga Stars (Twiga meaning Giraffe), will enter the AWC in South Africa this coming October.
The match between Seattle and the Tanzania Nationals is set for 5:00 p.m. August 7 in the stadium at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. Tickets are FREE, however, a $5 donation is suggested to help support our Women’s Sounders.
