NEWBURGH, NY – The Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues added three players with Penn State University connections to the roster, bringing Emma Thomson, Julie Hubbard and Melissa Hayes to the Hudson Valley in 2010.
All three were part of the Penn State team that won the 2009 Big Ten Championship, the team’s twelfth-straight. Hayes, a defensive midfielder, played her final season as a senior in 2009. Combined with sophomore defender Thomson and freshmen forward Hubbard, Quickstrike Lady Blues Head Coach Jesse Kolmel expects big things from the trio.
“Penn State is a proven college program and it is great to have proven college players coming from it,” Kolmel said.
Hayes ended her time at Penn State in the fall with three goals and 12 assists in her collegiate career, while Thomson has started 42 games for Penn State in just two seasons. Hubbard, meanwhile, saw action in six matches for Penn State in her 2009 freshman campaign.
The three players join a Hudson Valley roster returning many key components of the team that won the 2009 W-League Regular Season Championship, including captains Erica Stewart and Erica Campanelli. The Lady Blues kick off their home schedule Sunday, May 30 at 5 p.m. against the Long Island Rough Riders at Newburgh Free Academy.
