USLsoccer.com caught up with Washington Freedom Futures coach Win Puffer for a quick holiday Q&A about the New Year. He covers his first season as the team's coach last year and suggests an interesting DC-themed trio for a Rose Parade float.
Best moment for your team in 2009 and why?
Making it back to the W-League championship game, our dramatic Semi-Final PK victory in the league semifinal against Ottawa and hosting our first playoff matches at the Maryland SoccerPlex in our club's history were the best moments for the year.
Best moment for you personally in 2009 and why?
The entire season was great. We put together a special group of players and they were fantastic all season. The team was so close knit that every day was special. So being a part of what I felt was the best collection of players in the league and doing so well was rewarding.
If you could sneak a ‘futbol’ themed float into the Rose Bowl’s Tournament of Roses Parade, what three soccer celebrities should be on it and why?
DC United veteran Ben Olsen for personality and I have a feeling he’d do something funny and unexpected. Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach because they are two of the most recognized women’s players to represent the women’s game and, of course, the Washington Freedom!
What is your favorite New Year’s tradition and why?
Just gathering with friends to bring in the new year.
What are you (or the club) considering for your New Year’s Resolution for 2010 and why?
To continue to produce top teams in each of our club’s age groups respective leagues and to bring home a championship!
