OTTAWA, ONT - With the NCAA season now in full swing, Fury youth graduates and former Fury W-League players are making headlines across the league.
Caroline Robert was named MAAC conference defensive player of the week with great performances in net for Canisius College. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied nine saves in just under 190 minutes of work to help the Griffs to a 2-0 week. In five appearances this season, Robert has compiled a 4-0-1 record, with a goals against average of 1.26 and one shutout.
At the University of Maine, a milestone was reached for former Fury SYL player Joseé Descoeurs. In the 39th minute of a heated match against top-Mid-Atlantic ranked team Northeastern University, Descoeurs would score her first-ever collegiate goal on a pass from teammate Kelsey Wilson. The goal put Maine up 2-0 and proved to be the match winner as the Black Bears would hold off Northeastern by a 3-1 final scoreline - pushing their season record to 3-3-1.
2009 Fury W-League striker Melissa Busque hit the headlines this past weekend with her third game-winning goal for soccer powerhouse UConn Huskies. Busque's marker, the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Yale, impoved the Huskies' record to 6-2-0 and maintained the team's winning streak at six games. Since resuming training and games with UConn, Busque has enjoyed a superb sophomore season and currently has tallied three goals and three assists (tied for most points on the squad).
