W-League Team of the Week
Sarah Steinmann takes top honors

USL News Release

Wednesday, May 21

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the W-League Team of the Week for the fifth week of the USL season and the second edition of the W-League Team of the Week for the year, honoring Atlanta Silverbacks forward Sarah Steinmann as Player of the Week, respectively.

Steinmann helped the Silverbacks get off to a 3-0 start and has led her team to victory in all three games. This week alone she tallied five goals in two games and brought her season total to seven. Steinmann’s play this season has made her a very early candidate for MVP of the league.

Ashlee Pistoius led Boston to a dominating performance over the visiting Northern Virginia Majestics. Pistoius scored four goals in a 7-1 victory to avenge last week’s 1-0 setback.

Hayley MacDonald played two outstanding games and controlled the middle of the field as she led Toronto to four points this week.

“She had a tireless effort in the middle,” said Toronto coach Danny Stewart.

Joslyn Slovek made 14 saves in two games and helped Ventura escape with a point against two powerful offensive teams. She was key in Ventura’s 2-2 draw with Vancouver and only had one blemish in a 1-0 loss to Seattle.

Emily Zurrer showed her versatility in Vancouver’s 2-2 draw against Ventura. Zurrer played strong defense the whole game in limiting the amount of scoring chances for Ventura and came up big for the Whitecaps with the game-tying goal in the 90th minute.
