RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Kickers Future (Premier Development League) and Richmond Kickers Destiny (W-League) are pleased to recognize several players on their respective 2007 squads who earned collegiate and national honors this year.
Becky Sauerbrunn, a 2006 and 2007 member of the Richmond Kickers Destiny, capped off a successful collegiate career with the University of Virginia Cavaliers, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. A first team All-ACC selection, Sauerbrunn has not only made her name known on the W-League and collegiate levels, but also on the national level when she was selected to the Under-23 U.S. Women’s National Team for play in the Nordic Cup this past summer.
Sauerbrunn’s teammate at the University of Virginia, Chantel Jones, received the goalkeeper spot on the All-ACC Second Team. The Richmond native’s selection was well deserved as she attained an impressive 0.408 Goals Against Average for the Cavaliers.
Another Richmond native earning all conference honors was Sarah Hilt, who was named to the All Atlantic 10 Conference First Team for her outstanding defensive play with the University of Richmond. Rounding out the collegiate honors for 2007 Destiny members was VCU defender Samara Stephen-Dowd, who achieved an All-CAA Second Team nod.
