WALTHAM, MA -- The Boston Renegades and the New York Magic had to endure a 40 minute delay due to the elements this evening before they could get their playoff game off the ground and then the Renegades rolled to a 4-0 win.

It wasn’t long before the Renegades got the on the scoresheet.  Two minutes had elapsed on the Bowditch scoreboard when UVA and U21 US National Team player Becky Sauerbrunn headed the ball off the post into the back of the net.

Although elated, Luis Reis was aware of what had happened in Barnstable a month earlier. “Yes, we were happy with the early goal, but we scored early against them at Barnstable and we were 3-1 down at halftime.  I felt that it may have been too dangerous to sit back and posses and settle for a one zero, two zero victory.”

Marisa Brown continued her amazing streak after 18 minutes, when the industrious Lisa Stoia played a slide rule pass to the striker.  Brown skipped past the on-rushing keeper and slotted the ball into the back of the net to send the Renegades fans into raptures.

Native New Yorker, Lisa Stoia was rewarded for her hard work in the first half when she dispossessed a Magic defender and smashed the ball past the hapless visiting goalkeeper.

Nature did its best to stop the game, but both sets of players continued to put a show on for the crowd.  The Renegades went in at the break with a three goal advantage.  The New York Magic had a number of attacks throughout the game but the back four of Anderson, Sauerbrunn, Williamson and Fisher made sure that Criscione did not have much to do.

Meghan Welcome iced the game with the Renegades fourth goal after 48 minutes.

Reis was afforded the luxury of resting some of his key players for this weekend’s Eastern Conference Championship Tournament. He replaced Stoia, Sauerbrunn, Stocco and Brown with Hucles, Johnson, Avner and Burke.

“I wanted to give other players some playing time and yes we just wanted to get them off the field and not get them injured.  It was just a matter of protecting the players for this weekend’s games.” stated Reis

Reis was very pleased with the win.  “It was a convincing win.  We played as if we wanted to make a statement and we did,” said Reis.

The Renegades now will play the Toronto Lady Lynx (Saturday 30th @ 2pm) after the Canadians defeated the Vermont Lady Voltage 6-0.

Reis was upbeat and didn’t have a preference on Saturday’s opponents.

“At this point of the year you can’t pick who you want to play. We will bring our best to the game no matter who we play,” commented Reis.
